50 law firms worldwide practising Whistleblower & Qui Tam. Narrow down by city to find a firm near you.
A whistleblower lawyer helps an insider report fraud or misconduct and stay protected while doing it. In the US, qui tam suits under the False Claims Act let a person sue on the government's behalf over fraud on public programmes, such as Medicare billing or defence contracts, and receive a share of what is recovered. Separate programmes reward tips to the SEC, the CFTC and the IRS.
Protections and rewards are national. Award programmes are largely an American feature. The EU Whistleblower Directive now requires member states to offer safe reporting channels and protection from retaliation, but generally without cash awards. The UK protects workers under its public interest disclosure rules. Choosing the right channel can determine whether you are protected at all.
Most qui tam and SEC whistleblower lawyers work on contingency, taking a percentage of any award, so the client pays little upfront. That is lawful in the US. In many other countries contingency fees are limited, and retaliation claims are billed hourly or covered by insurance. Timing is critical: False Claims Act cases face limitation periods, and the first person to file usually has priority over later reporters.
Before choosing, ask how many qui tam complaints the firm has filed under seal and how it works with government attorneys. Ask how it keeps your identity confidential and how the fee is calculated. Do not take documents you are not entitled to without legal advice. Filter by country or city below.
