828 law firms worldwide practising Family Visa & Reunification. Narrow down by city to find a firm near you.
A family visa lets a spouse, partner, child or sometimes a parent join a relative who already lives in another country. Lawyers who handle family visa and reunification cases prepare the application, check that the sponsor meets the conditions and deal with the authorities when questions come back. The usual hurdles are proof that the relationship is genuine, a minimum income or maintenance threshold, adequate housing and, in some countries, a basic language test before arrival. Refugees often benefit from easier reunification rules if they apply within a set period after protection is granted. Same sex partners, adult children and elderly parents face very different rules from one country to the next.
Because immigration law is national, a family visa in Canada works nothing like one in Germany or the United Kingdom. Some systems use a sponsorship undertaking that makes the sponsor financially responsible for years. Others look mainly at income on the date of the decision. Processing times vary from weeks to well over a year.
Most firms charge a fixed fee for preparing a complete application, with separate fees for appeals or interviews. Government fees and translation costs come on top. Contingency arrangements are not a normal feature of this work.
Watch the timing. Documents such as police certificates and bank statements expire, and a refugee's privileged window for reunification can close. Ask a lawyer which documents must be legalised or apostilled, how strong the income evidence is and what your options are if the application fails. A family visa refused for missing paperwork is often avoidable. Filter by country or city below to find a firm and contact it directly.
